The TELRAD viewfinder is a projection finder that can be installed on any telescope and makes it child's play to align the telescope with the starry sky.The TELRAD viewfinder is a practical alternative to classic optical viewfinders and illuminated red dot viewfinders. You can see the complete starry sky without magnification, and not just a small section as with a normal optical viewfinder. Against this background of the starry sky, three red luminous concentric rings are projected, with apparent diameters of 4 degrees, 2° and 0.5° in the sky. Move the telescope so that the object you are looking for is in the inner ring, and the telescope points in the right direction. The Vixen Viewfinder 7x50, with illuminated reticule is an exceptionally high quality optical finder scope, featuring 50 mm Achromatic objective. The internal crosshairs are accurately inscribed and can be illuminated with a battery-powered LED attachment, which can be varied in brightness to the user's requirements. This finder gives a field of view of 7.2° in the night sky.

Thanks to the large aperture of 50 mm, the Vixen 7x50 finder scope immediately reveals many objects that are not visible in smaller viewfinders. This makes it easy to adjust the telescope to the target object. The red illumination of the finder scope can be dimmed to different levels.The eyepiece is detachable (31.7 mm diameter) so that a CMOS camera with 31.7 mm diameter (available separately) can be attached and used as an autoguider. The eyepiece unit with crosshairs is also removable in order to use 31.7 mm diameter eyepieces (sold separately) with different focal lengths. This allows the finder scope to be operated with various magnifications.The lens is designed to be compatible with CMOS cameras. The distance between the bottom of the 31.7 mm sleeve on the camera side and the sensor surface should be approximately 17 mm. However, the focus position may vary depending on the camera, so you should adjust the guiding camera for focus before use. The focus of the optics is adjusted by rotating the lens. In the northern hemisphere*, simply position the polar star and two additional stars in the finder’s field of view so that each star is aligned with the corresponding positions in the finder reticle. This enables you to easily configure the equatorial mount with an accuracy of 3 arc minutes or less. The new design of the polar scope eyepiece improves the visibility of stars and makes the scale easier to read. *Three stars for polar orientation in the southern hemisphere are located in Octans.
What is the polar alignment scope?
The polar alignment scope is a small telescope that is installed parallel to the R.A. axis of an equatorial mount such that it matches the R.A. axis to be parallel in the direction of the diurnal motion of stars. The polar alignment scope utilizes 3 stars (Polaris, Delta UMi and 51 Cep) near the north celestial pole. To locate the north celestial pole, simply align the positions on the reticle in the polar alignment scope with the 3 designated stars. In addition, the patterns of the Big Dipper and Cassiopeia are engraved on the polar alignment reticle for use as a guide for the north celestial pole. The polar alignment scope can align the polar axis of the equatorial mount as accurately as 3 arc minutes or less.

The necessary information for polar alignment is integrated into the reticle, which is designed for locating the north (or south) celestial pole. It is not necessary to configure an hour angle setting in the dark. This makes polar alignment easier, as you can look through the eyepiece of the polar alignment scope.

Dark field illumination (with automatic power off function)
The switch on the polar alignment scope’s brightness adjustment dial illuminates the reticle in red when activated. Compared with bright field illumination, this prevents less bright stars from disappearing from the scope's field of view. The brightness can be adjusted in 8 levels by turning the brightness adjustment dial. The red light dims gradually after a certain period of time and turns off automatically.
Easy to set up
Remove the mounting block on the front side and the cap on the rear side of the POLARIE. Then insert the POLARIE PF-L finder scope into the POLARIE to complete the installation. The telescope is ready for use in no time!

The TELRAD dew cap prevents the projection screen from fogging up in unfavourable weather conditions. With built-in 90° deflecting mirror for easier use in zenith position. The functionality is quite simple. If the TELRAD viewfinder is not used in the meantime, simply flip the dew cap over the viewfinder projection screen. This saves the annoying wiping off of the humidity and the viewfinder is always ready for use. The dew cap is made of impact-resistant plastic and additionally protects the viewfinder projection screen from scratches during transport. Vixen’s latest design of polar finder, allows a simple, hassle-free method of polar alignment. The Vixen Polarscope PF-L II for AP & SX mounts has a reticule showing the Pole star (Polaris) and two other stars (Delta UMi and 51 Cep) in their precise positions. By turning the Polarscope you can easily match the reticle with the asterism of these stars in the sky and mechanically adjust your mount’s azimuth and altitude axes to align to the true North Pole. You can then adjust the Polar star to a more precise alignment using the reticule’s year marking (which runs from 2015 to 2040, but in practise can be used much longer after this) .
Using this alignment process, with visual reference to the actual stars in the sky, a complicated alignment, using date and time to calculate Polaris offset from the pole is unnecessary. For alignment in the Southern Hemisphere you simply use the Trapezium asterism (Sigma, Chi, Tau and Upsilon Octantis) of the constellation Octans and position the reticule with the trapezium stars aligned to their marked positions.
The Polarscope has built-in LED illumination, which is dimmable in many stages, and ensures an automatic shut-off after 2 minutes, saving your battery life.
The PFL-II also has an improved edge sharpness, when compared with its predecessor.
