The SD glass is designed to bring all rays – violet, red, blue, yellow, and green – to the same plane. This special lens material reduces chromatic aberration across all colors. The new Vixen SD115SII has no spacers, which significantly improves image quality, especially for bright stars. In photographic images, no spikes are visible on the stars, which were previously caused by spacers.In combination with the optional SD Reducer HD Kit or SD Flattener HD (not included), this refractor telescope provides an image circle of 44 mm for full-frame DSLR cameras. The older ED81SII, ED103S, and ED115S refractors were originally developed for visual observers and photographers using APS-C cameras. Fast 90 mm high-performance astrograph for demanding astrophotographers and observers with 5 lens elements in 5 groups. Due to the complex optical structure with five lens groups and five elements (quintuplet), including two SD (Super ED) lenses and an ED lens (Extra-low Dispersion) , a virtually aberration-free optical system was created.
This revolutionary astrograph is compatible with a full-frame digital DSLR or an even larger 44x33 mm camera. The 90 mm astrograph with fast aperture ratio delivers exceptionally sharp, high-contrast and small point stars from the centre to the corners of the field of view. In addition, it is also ideal for visual observation with a very large field of view but also for planetary observation with high magnification.
The VSD90ss is designed so that there is a "long peak range" in the adjustment accuracy of the sharpness, so that photographers can always achieve satisfactory results in astrophotography. Even if the focus is not quite precise, round and sharp stars are still shown throughout the entire image field.
Illumination without vignetting
In most cases, an astrograph also produces optical vignetting (a gradual decrease in light rays towards the edge of the image) This is mainly caused by rear lenses being shaded by the front lenses. Because of this darkening, it is relatively normal for the photographer to have to further edit the image after taking the picture and also have to do some additional so-called flats before taking the picture. To solve this problem, the VSD90ss uses wide aperture lenses in the rear elements, securing over 90 % of the light volume at the edge of the 60 mm image circle. Since the light intensity is uniform throughout the entire image field of the VSD90ss, there is no need for complex technology to prevent edge darkening. The VSD90ss is coated with the most modern coatings of extremely high reflectivity. These coatings have been specifically developed to optimize the properties of each individual lens element without degrading contrast and light intensity across multiple lenses.
Numerous gradations of light bring beautiful point-like stars into the image field
The low optical vignetting ensures sufficient illumination and thus eliminates the asymmetric flare caused by bright, diffraction-limited stars. It prevents stars at the edge of the 60 mm image circle from exhibiting deformations such as comets, astigmatism or coma. Since the illumination of the image field is relatively similar from the center to the edge of the image, you can expect excellent star imaging.

The VSD90ss offers a flattened large field of view with a low magnification wide angle eyepiece. Even with a high-quality wide-field eyepiece with a large field of view, you can get sharp images of stars in the entire field of view when visually observing! In the centre of the field of view, a Strehl intensity of an impressive 96.7% is achieved at visible wavelengths. This Strehl ratio exceeds that of the SD81SII apochromat at 95.7%, which is known for its excellent optical properties, and this also works excellently when observing the moon and planets at high magnification.
The versatile large and stable focuser
The VSD90ss has a large focuser with a diameter of 87.5 mm to make optimal use of the large illumination field of 60 mm. With the large extension that is compatible with many accessories, it is perfect for astrophotography up to large format or 35 mm full frame DSLR cameras. Thanks to its precise manufacturing, it is also suitable for very heavy cameras without tipping.
The precision locking lever of the eyepiece extension
The focuser's extension tube has a locking lever that holds the extension tube firmly in position even when using heavy cameras such as large format cameras or CCD cameras with a large sensor. The locking lever clamps the rack gear to the extension barrel so that the viewing angle or focus on your camera does not shift.
Compatible with motor driven focusers
An optional two-speed motor focuser (not included) is available for the VSD90ss to provide sensitive focusing. An EAF (Electronic Automatic Focuser) from ZWO or equivalent can also be retrofitted.
Optional VSD Reducer for even faster results

The H-alpha wavelength is the most impressive way to observe the sun,

Tuning is done by slightly changing the air pressure in a pressure

The H-Alpha Etalon system can be removed from the telescope in a few easy steps thanks to its modular design. With the additionally available conversion kit (item number 0551430) the 3-lens apochromatic refractor can then be used as a normal telescope with 100 mm aperture and 714 mm focal length for observation and photography of the night sky. The FPL-53 triplet lens offers an outstandingly low colour aberration image. Common 2 inch star diagonals can be used at the high quality R&P focuser of the conversion kit 0551430.
Please note that the optionally available conversion kit 0551430 is absolutely necessary if the telescope should be used at night.

In the new Vixen SD115SII, no spacer plates are used anymore, which leads to a significantly better image quality especially with bright stars. Consequently, no spikes are seen on the stars in photographic images, which would otherwise be caused by the spacer plates.In combination with the optional SD Reducer HD Kit or SD Flattener HD (not included), this refractor telescope enables illumination with a 44-mm image circle for full-frame SLR cameras. The older ED81SII, ED103S, ED115S refractors were originally developed for
visual observers and photographers with APS-C cameras.
However, the new SD series is also optimized for use with full-frame cameras due to the use of new internal diaphragms. The large 60-mm eyepiece holder also allows the attachment of heavy cameras without tilting. Furthermore, the supplied flip mirror
allows comfortable observing even in unfavorable viewing conditions and

The sturdy metal tripod allows vibration-free mounting of the telescope and mount even in windy conditions. The SXD2WL mount is simply operated via a Wifi module with a smartphone or tablet . For user-friendly control of the mount, the free app STAR BOOK Wireless is available. This allows you to use practical celestial navigation functions like the automatic GoTo swiveling to specific celestial objects simply via your smartphone or tablet. Since the power consumption of the traditional LCD screen (STAR BOOK TEN) is eliminated, the power consumption of the mount is reduced by up to 20%. This enables astronomical observations and astrophotography over longer periods.
When you tap the desired celestial object from a list, it is automatically swiveled into the telescope's field of view and tracking begins. An existing STAR BOOK TEN control can also be used on this mount without any problems. Equipped with the same precision stepper motors as the top model, the AXD mount, the SXD2WL sets a new standard for performance and precision in the Vixen mount family.
The axis cross of the mount is with a photographic carrying capacity of 15 kg just 9.2 kg light and thus excellent for mobile observations . Moreover, the motors located in the lower part of the mount also act as counterweights. This reduces the need for additional counterweights.
The SXD2 Mount in Detail
Precision stepper motors and Micro-Step-Motion-Control system
The heart of the SXD2 are the precision stepper motors, which offer better performance and response than previous models. The Micro-Step-Motion-Control system boasts powerful yet very quiet drive properties, which are present both in fine movements and in fast swivels.
Built-in bearings
The bearings of the RA and DEC axes and the worm shafts have been significantly improved to reduce the load on the motors. As a result, the motors move much quieter than in previous models.
High-precision worm gears
High-precision processing technologies eliminate errors in the worm gears. The edges of both worms and worm wheels are particularly smooth, enabling very precise tracking.
Declination axis as counterweight
The massive motor units are built into the lower part of the declination axis, so the center of gravity of the SXD2 is below the intersection of the RA and DEC axes. This means you need fewer additional counterweights.
Latitude adjustment
The latitude can be adjusted between 0 and 70 degrees (divided into 3 zones and adjustable +/- 15 degrees per zone, for high, medium, and low latitudes); latitude scale in 2-degree steps; fine adjustment with a tangent screw head, approx. 0.8 degrees per rotation.
Built-in PFL-II polar finder with illumination
The built-in 5x20-mm polar finder with a 10° field of view features a 3-star alignment system.
This eliminates the tedious setting of date and time. The illuminated reticle with variable brightness and automatic shutoff is adjustable in 8 levels and is red illuminated. The adjustment accuracy is 3 arc minutes.The Wireless Module in Detail
The Vixen WiFi Adapter for EQ mounts enables you to control your Vixen mount via a smartphone or tablet. This allows you to navigate the skies wirelessly using the STAR BOOK Wireless app (free), instantly transforming your mobile device into a controller for the equatorial mount. The response delay of the mount, a major drawback of wireless connections, has been reduced to a level comparable with wired solutions.

Operation similar to the STAR BOOK TEN controller
The STAR BOOK Wireless App is structured similarly to the STAR BOOK TEN controller you might already be familiar with. Depending on the star chart settings, it includes up to 259,000 celestial objects. Simply tap on a celestial object in the object list to start the GoTo. The mount then automatically moves to this target and positions it within the telescope’s field of view. All the popular features of the STAR BOOK TEN are retained.
Convenient operation
While looking through the telescope, you control the mount by swiping on the app’s star map. With no buttons required, you simply glide your finger over the star map, allowing for easy operation of the mount.
Comprehensive astronomical data included
This includes data on easily observable celestial bodies such as Messier objects, NGC objects, IC objects, as well as the sun, moon, planets, comets, and dwarf planets.
High-precision alignment
Aligning with one or two stars already provides a fairly accurate positioning of the mount. Aligning with three or more stars allows for high-precision alignment of the mount for high magnifications. The objects are then precisely centered in your telescope’s field of view. The alignment information is stored and can be retained even when the device is turned off. By leaving the telescope in its current state after observing, without moving it, you can start the next observation with the automatic setup using the same settings.
Individual setting options
Like the STAR BOOK TEN controller, the app offers various individual settings such as backlash compensation, red night mode, autoguider, as well as variable GoTo speed and LED brightness. The SXD 2 mount in detail
With a combination of the best features from the Sphinx series and the all-new STAR BOOK TEN manual control, Vixen has developed a new generation of SX mounts for demanding observers and astrophotographers.
The SXD2 mount comes with the new STAR BOOK TEN control and can be operated manually or with a computer.
Featuring the same precision stepper motors as the top-of-the range AXD mount, the SXD2 sets a new standard for performance in the Vixen mount range. Compared with the SX mounts, the SXD2 has a quieter tracking system, and the increased precision of the motors provides better performance for the long exposure times used in astrophography.
Precision stepper motors and micro-step motion control system
The star feature of the SXD2 is the precision stepper motors, which offer better performance and responsiveness than previous models. The micro-step motion control system has powerful yet very quiet drive characteristics that offer both fine control and quick swivel movements.
Built-in bearings
The bearings of the RA and DEC axles and the worm shafts were significantly improved in order to reduce the load on the motors. The motors are much quieter than those on previous models.
Robust RA and DEC axles
High-precision and thick steel shafts in RA and DEC increase the robustness of the SXD2 mount.
High-precision worm gears
High-precision processing technologies were used to rectify problems with the worm gear. The edges of both worms and worm gears are particularly smooth, which enables them to deliver very high precision.
Declination axis functions as counterweight
The sturdy motor units are located in the lower section of the declination axis to ensure that the SDX2’s centre of gravity is below the intersection of the RA and DEC axis. As a result, fewer additional counterweights are required.
The SD115S in detail
The ED81SII, ED103S and ED115S refractors were originally designed for visual observers or photographers with an APS-C camera. The new SD series features new inner panels which are optimised for full-frame cameras and illuminates images with a frame size of 44 mm.
The SD 115 ED refractor is the largest refractor in the Vixen range.
Thanks to the FPL-53 lens, it offers an extremely high contrast and sharpness.
This type of lens produces true colour and high-contrast images.
