FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

For this application we recommend the BRESSER Erudit DLX 40-1000x microscope in combination with a USB camera, e.g. the BRESSER MikroCam 1.3 MP. This solution offers better image quality and flexibility than a simple LCD microscope.

If you want to identify bacteria, it is usually more useful to create a culture. Microscopes are generally only sufficient to determine whether the bacteria are, for example, spherical or rod-shaped.
The Barlow lens is already installed in the eyepiece tube on many devices. It can be pulled out at the upper ridge to use the zoom function.
Possible causes:

  • Sample too thick / unsuitable: Use thin samples or fixed smears.
  • No cover glass or incorrect thickness: Objectives are optimized for cover glasses.
  • Condenser incorrectly adjusted: Do not open the diaphragm too far – otherwise contrast will be low.
  • Magnification too high: Rule of thumb: maximum 1000 × objective aperture. Example: With a 40x objective with aperture 0.65, the limit is about 650x.

BRESSER ICD 30.5mm Widefield Eyepiece 15x
The 10x eyepiece is suitable for all microscopes with 23.2mm eyepiece tube diameter. This diameter is widely used in stereo microscopes, also from other brands or manufacturers. Please select the eyepiece magnification in correspondence to the objective you are using. A low objective magnification allows for a higher magnification of the eyepiece. For example, combined with 4x or 10x objectives, eyepieces with 20x or 25x magnification can be used without loss of image quality. With a 100x objective, a 10x or 12.5x eyepiece is usually the highest recommended eyepiece magnification. To calculate the maximum useful magnification, consider the numerical aperture (N. A.) of the objective lens: numerical aperture of the objective lens x 1000 = max. useful magnification Here is a typical example: for a 10x objective with numerical aperture NA 0.25, a maximum of 250x magnification can be realized. This is realized with a 25x eyepiece. The numerical aperture is usually printed besides the magnification factor on many objectives. Magnifications beyond the max. useful magnification do not show any further details (so-called “empty magnification”) and are therefore not recommended. FEATURES Wide field eyepiece 15x for stereo microscopes Eyepiece with wide field of view Compatible with most stereo microscopes Microscope should have diopter adjustment built in Easy to change SCOPE OF DELIVERY ICD 30.5mm Widefield Eyepiece 15x

BRESSER Analyth STR 10x - 60x Stereo Reflected and Transmitted Light Microscope
The BRESSER Analyth STR 10x - 60x Stereo Reflected and Transmitted Light Microscope features 3 different objective magnifications (1x, 2x, 3x), which can be easily switched by rotating the objective. This allows for magnifications of 10x, 20x, 30x, 40x and 60x. Two eyepiece pairs with 10x and 20x magnification are included. They are secured with a small screw to prevent them from falling out. The stereo design provides a particularly vivid and three-dimensional view of structured objects. The low initial magnification of 10x is especially suitable for working with children. This allows objects up to 20 mm in size to be viewed in full. The Analyth STR is therefore extremely versatile. It is suitable for insects, plants, minerals and much more, and can be used for hobbies, in schools and in professional settings. Of course, the stereo microscope can also be used for quality control, in horticulture and agriculture, for water analysis and many other applications. Interpupillary distance and dioptre adjustment can be set individually. The eyepieces offer a large field of view and can be fitted with rubber eyecups. The microscope can be powered either via the mains adapter or with 3 AA batteries (not included). Thanks to the practical carrying handle, it can be used on the go – for example, in the garden or during field trips. FEATURES Microscope with 5 magnifications: 10x, 20x, 40x, 60x Wide-field eyepieces with rubber eyecups and 20 mm field of view Bright, energy-efficient LED illumination, adjustable angle Illumination for reflected and transmitted light can be switched separately Dimmer via membrane buttons with status indicator Two stage plates (black/white and frosted glass), stage clips SCOPE OF DELIVERY Microscope with 3 objective pairs: 1x, 2x, 3x Metal stand with LED illumination, power supply and battery compartment 2 eyepiece pairs (10x, 20x) 1 pair of rubber eyecups Glass stage plate Plastic stage plate (black/white) Dust cover Instruction manual
