FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

For this application we recommend the BRESSER Erudit DLX 40-1000x microscope in combination with a USB camera, e.g. the BRESSER MikroCam 1.3 MP. This solution offers better image quality and flexibility than a simple LCD microscope.

If you want to identify bacteria, it is usually more useful to create a culture. Microscopes are generally only sufficient to determine whether the bacteria are, for example, spherical or rod-shaped.
The Barlow lens is already installed in the eyepiece tube on many devices. It can be pulled out at the upper ridge to use the zoom function.
Possible causes:

  • Sample too thick / unsuitable: Use thin samples or fixed smears.
  • No cover glass or incorrect thickness: Objectives are optimized for cover glasses.
  • Condenser incorrectly adjusted: Do not open the diaphragm too far – otherwise contrast will be low.
  • Magnification too high: Rule of thumb: maximum 1000 × objective aperture. Example: With a 40x objective with aperture 0.65, the limit is about 650x.

BRESSER Set Microscope Slides
Slides and cover glasses are an indispensable accessory which has also impact on the image quality. For most biological microscopes, the cover glass thickness is an important optical parameter, which is therefore included in the optical design and, if so, printed on the sleeve of every objective. You can usually see the number 0.17 which is the thickness in millimeters. For demanding applications in the laboratory, or for microphotography, using cover glasses with the desired thickness and high quality is necessary. The cover glasses included in the set are made of Boro 3.3 glass and are standardized to a thickness of 0.16-0.19mm. So they match the desired 0.17mm really good and give the best possible image quality. These Boro 3.3 cover glasses are pure white, without streaks and are pre-cleaned and ready to use. They are also especially suitable for fluorescence microscopy. The slides are made of soda lime glass, and have ground edges for safe handling. They have a matte field for writing on both sides (top and bottom). Slides and cover glasses are packed separately and in a vacuum sealed bag, containing moisture absorbent. They can be stored for a long time without loss of quality from hydrolysis and are easy to take out.

BRESSER HDMI Full HD Display (13.3") for MikroCam Pro
The Full HD display is the ideal addition to the BRESSER MikroCam Pro HDMI and MINI HDMI.The display can be mounted directly on the camera using an adjustable bracket. It provides brilliant images without artefacts, as the display has the same resolution as the output image of the camera. With the MikroCam and HDMI display set, almost any trinocular microscope with a camera connection can be upgraded to a digital microscope. This means that observations can be made independently of a PC. The size of the display has been optimised so that the microscope user can microscope as usual and view the image on the monitor at the same time. The display provides optimum image quality with a large viewing angle of 178°! This means that several people can view the image without any loss of quality. The image from the microscope camera is always displayed on the HDMI screen without delay and with a high refresh rate of 60 FPS. The quality of the image displayed using an HDMI microscope camera on an HDMI monitor is therefore usually better than when using a USB camera on a laptop or PC. This is particularly advantageous when delicate work is done under microscopic control. Many users also benefit from the improved ergonomics when the image can be viewed on the HDMI display. Higher magnifications with their high numerical aperture are particularly unpleasant for users with eye problems such as mouches volantes (vitreous opacities). Digital viewing can provide a remedy here. The display can be operated with the same power supply unit as the camera using the enclosed Y-cable. A suitable, short, angled HDMI cable is also included to avoid cable clutter in the workplace. Mounting on a MikroCam PRO or MINI is carried out using two screws. Screws and tools are included in the scope of delivery. FEATURES 16:9 Full HD monitor with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels Active area: 16.5 x 29.4 cm Easy mounting directly on a MikroCam PRO or MINI Wide viewing angle (178°) No separate power supply unit required SCOPE OF DELIVERY 13.3" display HDMI cable Y-cable for power supply via camera power supply unit Mounting screws (2 pieces) Allen (hex) key Instruction manual
