FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

For this application we recommend the BRESSER Erudit DLX 40-1000x microscope in combination with a USB camera, e.g. the BRESSER MikroCam 1.3 MP. This solution offers better image quality and flexibility than a simple LCD microscope.

If you want to identify bacteria, it is usually more useful to create a culture. Microscopes are generally only sufficient to determine whether the bacteria are, for example, spherical or rod-shaped.
The Barlow lens is already installed in the eyepiece tube on many devices. It can be pulled out at the upper ridge to use the zoom function.
Possible causes:

  • Sample too thick / unsuitable: Use thin samples or fixed smears.
  • No cover glass or incorrect thickness: Objectives are optimized for cover glasses.
  • Condenser incorrectly adjusted: Do not open the diaphragm too far – otherwise contrast will be low.
  • Magnification too high: Rule of thumb: maximum 1000 × objective aperture. Example: With a 40x objective with aperture 0.65, the limit is about 650x.

The camera operates with a global shutter. This prevents distortions with moving objects. If there is enough light, the extremely short exposure time of up to 1/50,000 seconds can also practically freeze fast movements. The MikroCam Lab II Software offers a variety of different functions, such as measurement in live image (calibration specimen required), mosaic image creation, focus stacking (for increased depth of field). Furthermore, almost all automatic functions (exposure time, sensitivity, white balance, etc.) can also be set manually. The functions: Mosaic and focus stacking (EDF) can be generated directly from the live image. This can save a lot of time.Even if you are not a professional, you can achieve quick success. To optimally use the mosaic function, a cross table is required.Due to the large sensor, the camera is not optimally suitable for every microscope. There may be edge shading (vignetting) in this case. This shading is usually prevented by a 0.75x optic (Art. No. 5914007) that is screwed into the camera. This camera is not designed for the trinocular tube of the ETD-201. With this microscope, only part of the image field can be used.FEATURES MICROSCOPE CAMERAModern Sony(R) IMX264 sensor 8.45mm x 7.07 mm (2/3'')5 MP (2448x2048)Global shutter for distortion-free movementsMany software functions, such as measurement, focus stacking (to overlay multiple recordings for increased depth of field), mosaic (to display larger image fields)Image and video recording, including time-lapse functionHigh-quality metal housing1/4'' tripod thread, e.g. for a photo tripodGood compatibility with various microscopesC-Mount thread: for easy adaptability, also suitable for C-Mount objectivesHigh-speed USB 3.0 connectionSYSTEM REQUIREMENTSWindows 10 or 11Intel i3, i5, i7 or i9 processor from 6th generation orAMD Ryzen processorOptical drive or internet connection for software downloadUSB 3.0, 3.1SCOPE OF DELIVERY MICROSCOPE CAMERACamera headUSB 3.0 cable23.2 mm adapter, 30 mm and 30.5 mmRecording and image processing software (for Windows)

The screen delivers brilliant images without artifacts, as the display has the same resolution as the output image of the camera. With the set of MikroCam and HDMI display, almost any trinocular microscope with camera connection can be upgraded to a digital microscope. Thus, observation can be done independently of a PC.The size of the display is optimally chosen so that the microscope user can microscope as usual and view the image simultaneously on the monitor. The display provides optimal image quality with a large viewing angle of 178°! Thus, several people can also view the image without loss of quality. The image from the microscope camera is displayed on the HDMI screen always without delay and with a high refresh rate of 60 FPS. The representation via HDMI microscope camera on an HDMI monitor is therefore usually of better quality than using a USB camera on a laptop or PC. This is particularly advantageous when work under microscopic control is to be carried out. Many users also benefit from the improved ergonomics when the image can be viewed on the HDMI display. Especially higher magnifications with their high numerical aperture are uncomfortable for eye problems such as floaters. Digital viewing can provide relief here. The display can be operated with the included Y-cable using the same power supply as the camera. A suitable, short, angled HDMI cable is also included, so that cable clutter at the workplace is avoided. The mounting on a MikroCam PRO or MINI is done using two screws. Screws and tools are included.FEATURES DISPLAY16:9 Full HD monitor with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixelsActive area: 16.5 x 29.4 cmEasy mounting directly on a MikroCam PRO or MINILarge viewing angle (178°)No separate power supply neededSCOPE OF DELIVERY13.3" displayHDMI cableY-cable for power supply via camera power supplyMounting screws (2 pieces)Hex keyUser manual
