FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

For this application we recommend the BRESSER Erudit DLX 40-1000x microscope in combination with a USB camera, e.g. the BRESSER MikroCam 1.3 MP. This solution offers better image quality and flexibility than a simple LCD microscope.

If you want to identify bacteria, it is usually more useful to create a culture. Microscopes are generally only sufficient to determine whether the bacteria are, for example, spherical or rod-shaped.
The Barlow lens is already installed in the eyepiece tube on many devices. It can be pulled out at the upper ridge to use the zoom function.
Possible causes:

  • Sample too thick / unsuitable: Use thin samples or fixed smears.
  • No cover glass or incorrect thickness: Objectives are optimized for cover glasses.
  • Condenser incorrectly adjusted: Do not open the diaphragm too far – otherwise contrast will be low.
  • Magnification too high: Rule of thumb: maximum 1000 × objective aperture. Example: With a 40x objective with aperture 0.65, the limit is about 650x.

BRESSER Set Microscope Slides
Slides and cover glasses are an indispensable accessory which has also impact on the image quality. For most biological microscopes, the cover glass thickness is an important optical parameter, which is therefore included in the optical design and, if so, printed on the sleeve of every objective. You can usually see the number 0.17 which is the thickness in millimeters. For demanding applications in the laboratory, or for microphotography, using cover glasses with the desired thickness and high quality is necessary. The cover glasses included in the set are made of Boro 3.3 glass and are standardized to a thickness of 0.16-0.19mm. So they match the desired 0.17mm really good and give the best possible image quality. These Boro 3.3 cover glasses are pure white, without streaks and are pre-cleaned and ready to use. They are also especially suitable for fluorescence microscopy. The slides are made of soda lime glass, and have ground edges for safe handling. They have a matte field for writing on both sides (top and bottom). Slides and cover glasses are packed separately and in a vacuum sealed bag, containing moisture absorbent. They can be stored for a long time without loss of quality from hydrolysis and are easy to take out.

Nexcope NIB630 inverted research microscope with tiltable lighting unit
The NIB 630 is the flagship of the NIB600 series of inverted microscopes. With such an inverted design, the device enables the microscopy of plankton, microalgae and cell cultures. Cell cultures can be examined directly in the culture vessel without taking samples. For particularly easy sample handling, it is equipped with a tiltable lighting unit. This means that even tall vessels can be placed comfortably without bumping against the lighting unit. The microscope head is equipped with a height-adjustable ergo viewing head. This allows users of different heights to adjust the microscope to a comfortable and ergonomic viewing height with a single hand movement. This special microscope is used in water management offices, research institutes and universities, in human and veterinary medicine, agriculture, marine biology, limnology, aquaculture and many more. The integrated display informs you at any time about the selected magnification and the status of the illumination as well as the ECO mode. The brightness can be programmed for each objective so that there is no need to readjust when changing magnification and the user is not blinded. OBJECTIVE The NEXCOPE NIB630 microscope is equipped with a quintuple nosepiece. A 4x planachromatic objective and one each of 10x, 20x and 40x planachromatic phase contrast objectives are included. The condenser has a numerical aperture of 0.3 and an extra long working distance. The objectives are calculated for a soil thickness of 1.2 mm. Please use appropriate culture vessels. The universal specimen holder is suitable for standard slides. EYEPIECES The eyepieces have a field of view of 22 mm. This gives you a very large field of view. The high eye point makes them very comfortable even for spectacle wearers. A rubber edge protects against scratches on contact. Dioptric compensation from -5 to +5 can be individually adjusted for each eyepiece. The interpupillary distance can be adjusted between 48 mm and 75 mm. The binocular can be tilted up and down to adjust the viewing height. ILLUMINATION The Koehler illumination provides the best possible light guidance of the microscopy light. This avoids stray light and only illuminates the just visible area in the specimen. This protects sensitive living specimens from excessive light irradiation. The powerful 3W LED can be adjusted in brightness and ensures optimal illumination. The brightness can be adjusted individually for each objective. If an objective is changed, the NEXCOPE NIB630 automatically adjusts the previously set brightness. The display shows the currently selected lens and the current brightness. The tiltable lighting unit makes it easier to work with taller sample vessels. The adjustable condenser with extra-long working distance enables quick readiness for use. MECHANICS In addition to coarse focusing, fine focusing helps to bring the specimen into focus very precisely. A full turn of the fine focusing knob moves the stage up or down by 0.2 mm. On the right side, the fine focus can be adjusted with a finger. The friction of the coarse focusing can also be varied. The fine focusing knobs are held magnetically and can be mounted on the left or right. The XY stage offers the possibility of inserting various holders. This allows slides or even petri dishes to be inserted. CAMERA CONNECTION The NEXCOPE NIB630 is specially designed for use with C-mount cameras. The camera connection is located on the side and has a switch between visual observation and camera (100/0 or 0/100). BRESSER Stereo Microscope Advance ICD 10x-160x Zoom with MikroCamII 5MP HIS Microscope Camera
Professional complete set for precise analyses and high-resolution image results: This powerful set combines the high-quality Advance ICD stereo microscope with the modern MikroCamII 5MP HIS camera and a 0.75x reduction lens. It is ideal for fine detail observations and high-resolution images, ensuring reliable documentation of your results. The Microscope in DetailThe BRESSER Advance ICD is suitable as a zoom stereo loupe for a wide range of observations. Objects appear three-dimensional and plastic due to the Greenough design with two inclined objectives. The 3D image also makes working with tools (e.g. preparing, dissecting, soldering) much easier. The zoom allows stepless adjustment of magnification with a zoom factor of 4.0 (1x-4x). Only minimal refocusing is needed when zooming. For this, the Advance ICD has a coaxial focus drive with coarse and fine adjustment. This allows particularly sensitive focusing at high magnifications or for photography. The fine focus is also a great aid for focus stacking, e.g. with our MikroCam cameras (optional). The interpupillary distance is individually adjustable. Both eyepiece holders have a dioptre adjustment, allowing differences in visual acuity of up to approx. 8 dpt between the left and right eye to be compensated. The 10x widefield eyepieces with a field number of 22 are equipped with removable rubber eyecups. The microscope head can be adjusted very far in height on the stand rod. This allows observation of very large objects up to an object height of approx. 22 cm.The bright LED incident illumination is adjustable in its tilt. The particularly even and bright LED transmitted illumination provides a homogeneous background for transmitted light specimens. The illumination can be set with a toggle switch, so incident and transmitted light can be used separately or together depending on the type of sample. You can conveniently adjust the brightness with the dimmer. The bright LED illumination produces no heat, so living samples can be safely observed over a longer period. A low-power 5V power adapter (with Euro and UK adapter) is used to power the long-lasting LED illumination. The power cable has a USB connector on one side. The Advance ICD can be used in many ways due to the large magnification range. In addition to the included 2x auxiliary lens, further additional objectives are available, allowing you to vary and adapt the magnification range, working distance, and depth of field even further to your requirements. These magnifications are possible in the basic configuration:10x eyepieces: 10x - 40x10x eyepieces plus 2x auxiliary lens: 20x - 80x20x eyepieces: 20x - 80x20x eyepieces plus 2x auxiliary lens: 80x - 160x(further magnifications possible with optional additional objectives or eyepiece magnifications)The third tube is designed for connecting a camera. A switch deflects the image from the left objective to the camera tube. Various adapters and reduction optics are available for C-mount cameras and DSLR or system cameras, so practically all cameras with removable lenses can be connected. The camera works with a global shutter. This prevents distortions in moving objects. If sufficient light is available, extremely short exposure times of up to 1/50,000 second can practically freeze fast movements. The MikroCam Lab II software offers a variety of functions, such as measurement in the live image (calibration specimen required), mosaic image creation, focus stacking (for increased depth of field). Furthermore, almost all automatic functions (exposure time, sensitivity, white balance, etc.) can also be set manually. The functions: mosaic and focus stacking (EDF) can be generated directly from the live image. This can save a lot of time.Even if you are not a professional, you will achieve quick success. To use the mosaic function optimally, a cross table is required.Due to the large sensor, the camera is not optimal for every microscope. Vignetting may occur in some cases. This shading is usually prevented by a 0.75x optic (item no. 5914007) screwed into the camera. The camera is not designed for the trinocular tube of the ETD-201. Only part of the image field can be used with this microscope.MICROSCOPE CAMERA FEATURESModern Sony(R) IMX264 sensor 8.45 mm x 7.07 mm (2/3'')5 MP (2448x2048)Global shutter for distortion-free movementsMany software functions, such as measurement, focus stacking (overlaying multiple images for increased depth of field), mosaic (for displaying larger image fields)Image and video recording, including time-lapse functionHigh-quality metal housing1/4'' tripod thread, e.g. for a photo tripodGood compatibility with various microscopesC-mount thread: for easy adaptability, also suitable for C-mount objectivesHigh-speed USB 3.0 connection SYSTEM REQUIREMENTSWindows 10 or 11Intel i3, i5, i7 or i9 processor from 6th generation orAMD Ryzen processorOptical drive or internet connection for software downloadUSB 3.0, 3.1 MICROSCOPE CAMERA SCOPE OF DELIVERYCamera headUSB 3.0 cable23.2 mm adapter, 30 mm and 30.5 mmRecording and image processing software (for Windows)

BRESSER Science MPO 401 Microscope
In contrast to usual light, polarized light has a preferred vibration plane of the light waves. Polarized light lets be seen anisotropic objects, whose observable properties are depending on the direction, "in a new light": crystals, but also animal hairs, feathers, muscles, nerve fibres and vegetable cell walls, which have a preferred direction of its biomolecules, show structures now, which were hidden in the normal bright field image. Images made by polarized light are often characterized by a fantastic coloring. Polarization microscopes are used particularly in mineralogy, geology, biology and medicine. In order to change the object's direction in a controlled way, the Science MPO 401 has a round, center-adjustable and full rotatable object stage with degree scale. The illumination and observation unit encloses e. g. the halogen bulb lamp (20 W) with dimmer, the field diaphragm (used to achieve the Köhler illumination), the 360° rotatable polarizer (for the production of polarized light), centering implements for the objectives and the analyzer attachment (for the analysis of the polarized light). The analyzer attachment is meant for receiving the 360° rotatable analyzer and optional available sliders (Bertrand lens for conoscopy; quartz wedge, lambda plate and lambda/4 plate used in order to get special colour effects). The wide field eyepieces (WF10x), which are also optional available, are placed at the trinocular head with an inclination of 30°. They have eye relief adjustment as well as diopter adjustment. The images shown by them are bright, true colored, sharp and rich in details. Apart from the slips and eyepieces, which were mentioned above, the accessories of the MPO 401 contain a dividing eyepiece (WF10x), the Abbe condenser with iris diaphragm, special polarization objectives (4x, 10x, 40x retractable, 100x-oil retractable), filters (blue, ground glass) and immersion oil.
