FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

For this application we recommend the BRESSER Erudit DLX 40-1000x microscope in combination with a USB camera, e.g. the BRESSER MikroCam 1.3 MP. This solution offers better image quality and flexibility than a simple LCD microscope.

If you want to identify bacteria, it is usually more useful to create a culture. Microscopes are generally only sufficient to determine whether the bacteria are, for example, spherical or rod-shaped.
The Barlow lens is already installed in the eyepiece tube on many devices. It can be pulled out at the upper ridge to use the zoom function.
Possible causes:

  • Sample too thick / unsuitable: Use thin samples or fixed smears.
  • No cover glass or incorrect thickness: Objectives are optimized for cover glasses.
  • Condenser incorrectly adjusted: Do not open the diaphragm too far – otherwise contrast will be low.
  • Magnification too high: Rule of thumb: maximum 1000 × objective aperture. Example: With a 40x objective with aperture 0.65, the limit is about 650x.

BRESSER Stereo Microscope Advance ICD 10x-160x Zoom with MikroCam PRO HDMI Autofocus Microscope Camera
High-quality complete set for precise analyses and sharp image transmission: This powerful set combines the Advance ICD stereo microscope with the advanced MikroCam PRO HDMI autofocus, as well as a 0.5x reduction lens. It is ideally suited for detailed observations and documenting work results. The microscope in detailThe BRESSER Advance ICD is suitable as a zoom stereo loupe for a wide range of observations. Objects appear three-dimensional and plastic due to the Greenough design with two inclined objectives. The 3D image also makes working with tools (e.g. preparing, dissecting, soldering) much easier. The zoom allows stepless adjustment of magnification with a zoom factor of 4.0 (1x-4x). Only minimal refocusing is required when zooming. For this, the Advance ICD has a coaxial focus drive with coarse and fine adjustment. This allows particularly sensitive focusing, especially at high magnifications or for photography. The fine focus is also a great aid for focus stacking, e.g. with our MikroCam cameras (optional). The eye distance is individually adjustable. Both eyepiece holders have a dioptre adjustment, allowing differences in visual acuity of up to approx. 8 dpt between the left and right eye to be compensated. The 10x widefield eyepieces with a field number of 22 are equipped with removable rubber eyecups. The microscope head can be adjusted very far in height on the stand rod. This allows very large objects up to an object height of approx. 22 cm to be observed. The bright LED incident light illumination is adjustable in its tilt. The particularly even and bright LED transmitted light illumination provides a homogeneous background for transmitted light specimens. The illumination can be set with a toggle switch, so incident and transmitted light can be used separately or together depending on the type of sample. You can conveniently control the brightness with the dimmer. The bright LED illumination produces no heat, so living samples can be safely observed over a longer period. A low-power 5V power adapter (with Euro and UK adapter) is used to power the long-lasting LED illumination. The power cable has a USB connector on one side. The Advance ICD can be used in many ways due to the large magnification range. In addition to the included 2x auxiliary lens, further additional objectives are available, allowing you to vary and adapt the magnification range, working distance and depth of field even further to your requirements. These magnifications are possible in the basic configuration:10x eyepieces: 10x - 40x10x eyepieces plus 2x auxiliary lens: 20x - 80x20x eyepieces: 20x - 80x20x eyepieces plus 2x auxiliary lens: 80x - 160x(further magnifications possible with optional additional objectives or eyepiece magnifications)The third tube is designed for connecting a camera. A switch deflects the image from the left objective to the camera tube. Various adapters and reduction optics are available for C-mount cameras and DSLR or system cameras, so practically all cameras with removable lenses can be connected. It delivers the microscope image live and without delay as an HDMI signal with Full HD resolution to a monitor or television. An optional 11'' HDMI monitor (Art. No. 5914110) can be mounted directly on the camera and provides brilliant and high-contrast images. Due to the very high light sensitivity, good image quality is ensured even in low light. This model is particularly recommended for darkfield or phase contrast. The autofocus allows optimal focusing of the camera without using the microscope's focus wheels. This ensures parfocality on various trinocular microscopes. The focusable range extends from position 0, which corresponds to the C-mount distance, over focusing up to 5.4 mm forward, which also reaches the CS-mount distance, and additionally up to 10.6 mm inward to cover an even larger range. Besides autofocus, the camera can also be manually focused via mouse. Focus adjustment to a specific area is also possible. The camera functions are operated via mouse directly on the on-screen menu. Measurements can be performed via the on-screen menu, turning your microscope with the MikroCam Pro HDMI Autofocus into a fully functional digital measuring microscope. The MikroCam PRO HDMI Autofocus offers a wide range of applications, including:DocumentationEvaluationAnalysisPresentationQuality controlAutomationMachine vision This makes the MikroCam PRO Autofocus an excellent industrial camera with a very good price-performance ratio. Additionally, the camera can provide the microscope view in a wireless network via a WiFi module. When connected via HDMI, images and videos can be recorded directly on an SD card (not included). Display via HDMI microscope camera on an HDMI monitor is therefore usually of better quality than using a USB camera on a laptop or PC. This is especially advantageous when working under microscopic control. Many users also benefit from improved ergonomics when viewing the image on the HDMI display. Especially higher magnifications with their high numerical aperture can be uncomfortable for eye problems such as floaters (vitreous opacities). Digital viewing can provide relief here. The display can be powered with the included Y-cable using the same power supply as the camera. A suitable short, angled HDMI cable is also included, so cable clutter at the workplace is avoided. Mounting on a MikroCam PRO or MINI is done using two screws. Screws and tools are included. DISPLAY FEATURES 16:9 Full HD monitor with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels Active area: 16.5 x 29.4 cm Easy mounting directly on a MikroCam PRO or MINI Wide viewing angle (178°) No separate power supply required SCOPE OF DELIVERY 13.3" display HDMI cable Y-cable for power supply via camera power supply Mounting screws (2 pieces) Allen key Operating instructions

BRESSER Stereo Microscope Science ETD-301 7-63x Trinocular Zoom with MikroCam MINI Full HD HDMI Microscope Camera
High-quality combo set for precise analyses and brilliant image display. This powerful set combines the professional Science ETD-301 stereo microscope with the modern MikroCam Mini HDMI camera and the appropriate adapter. The perfectly matched unit is ideal for precise observations, high-resolution live displays, and reliable visual documentation of your results. The Microscope in DetailThe BRESSER Science ETD-301 is a reflected and transmitted light stereo magnifier with high-quality optics. It is suitable for use in medicine, agriculture and forestry, criminology, scientific research institutes and schools, as well as for assembly and inspection of small components in precision mechanics and electronics. The particularly wide base with object table allows viewing of larger objects. The maximum object height is approx. 85 mm. The large working distance of 100 mm enables working with tools, e.g. for preparing or dissecting, measuring or testing. The instrument features LED reflected and transmitted illumination, which can be used individually or combined and each continuously adjustable. The reflected light incidence angle is particularly user-friendly adjustable. With interchangeable widefield eyepieces (WF10x) and a 9x stereo zoom objective (0.7x - 6.3x), a continuous magnification range of 7x to 63x is realised. The coarse and fine focusing allows precise sharpness adjustment, especially at high magnifications and for photography. The eye distance and dioptre adjustment are individually adjustable. The trinocular microscope head can be rotated 360° and has two eyepiece tubes inclined at 45°. The trinocular tube can carry a DSLR / system camera (APS-C or DX format) or a C-mount camera (sensor size up to 1'') using an optional adapter. A switch diverts the light path of one eyepiece to the camera. This provides 50% light, more than a microscope with a permanent beam splitter. To connect a DSLR / system camera, the adapter with item no. 5942100 and a camera-specific T2 ring are required. A C-mount camera is connected with the adapter item no. 5942101. A PC or laptop is not required to operate the camera; you can simply connect the MikroCam MINI Full HD HDMI to an existing monitor, TV, projector or smartboard. This makes it ideal for use in teaching. Alternatively, a small BRESSER monitor can be mounted directly on the camera (see item no. 5914120). The HDMI connection is easy to make and the camera is ready for use immediately. No software installation, PC setup etc. is necessary. Thanks to lossless data transmission, very good image quality is achieved and the image always has a consistently high frame rate of 60 fps and is delay-free. This is particularly advantageous when a microscope workstation is to be digitised, e.g. in quality control or production. The supplied USB mouse is connected for control. This allows the three menus (camera settings, measurement* and display) to be controlled. *To perform measurements with the camera, a calibration slide is required (e.g. item no.: 5916710 or 5916720). The camera is also very suitable for presentations, as it operates in automatic mode when the mouse is not connected. The menus and mouse pointer are then not visible. Please note that a direct PC connection is not possible. An HDMI to USB video capture device is required for this. The USB port is only for controlling the camera with the mouse. MICROSCOPE CAMERA FEATURES HDMI connection for direct connection to a monitor, TV, projector or smartboard C-mount thread for easy adaptability to various microscopes (manufacturer-independent) Compatible with USB sticks or SD card readers (max. storage size: 512 GB) No PC/laptop necessary MICROSCOPE CAMERA SCOPE OF DELIVERY MikroCam MINI Full HD HDMI with C-mount connection Power supply (12 V / 2A) USB mouse HDMI cable (approx. 1.5 m)

BRESSER USB Digital Microscope DST-1028 5MP
The BRESSER USB Digital Microscope DST-1028 5MP enables easy and convenient observation of your specimen on the computer with detailed images. The digital handheld microscope is especially suitable for examining material samples, circuit boards and electronic components, but also plants, insects and much more. In addition to applications in school and hobby, the digital microscope is also suitable for tasks in quality assurance. The device features high-quality optics with continuous zoom. This enables documentation of the specimen between 10x and 280x magnifications. Depending on the object to be examined, the appropriate magnification can always be selected. With its ring light, the digital incident light microscope ensures optimal illumination and high-contrast images of your specimen. The ring light consists of eight LEDs. The brightness can be conveniently controlled with the dimmer, which is integrated in the USB connection cable. The microscope has a stable, adaptable metal stand, which can be adjusted in height depending on the object height and magnification used. This makes it possible to examine both larger and very flat objects (e.g. printing documents). At low magnifications, the working distance is 110 mm, so that working with tools, e.g. for preparation, is possible underneath.
