FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

For this application we recommend the BRESSER Erudit DLX 40-1000x microscope in combination with a USB camera, e.g. the BRESSER MikroCam 1.3 MP. This solution offers better image quality and flexibility than a simple LCD microscope.

If you want to identify bacteria, it is usually more useful to create a culture. Microscopes are generally only sufficient to determine whether the bacteria are, for example, spherical or rod-shaped.
The Barlow lens is already installed in the eyepiece tube on many devices. It can be pulled out at the upper ridge to use the zoom function.
Possible causes:

  • Sample too thick / unsuitable: Use thin samples or fixed smears.
  • No cover glass or incorrect thickness: Objectives are optimized for cover glasses.
  • Condenser incorrectly adjusted: Do not open the diaphragm too far – otherwise contrast will be low.
  • Magnification too high: Rule of thumb: maximum 1000 × objective aperture. Example: With a 40x objective with aperture 0.65, the limit is about 650x.

This allows observations of objects to be easily documented and shared with others. The high frame rate of the MikroCam SF series enables the creation of videos with smooth image flow. The built-in Sony sensors offer good image quality, colour reproduction and dynamics. The included software supports, among others, the following languages: German, English, French, Spanish, Italian, Polish, Turkish. The MikroCamLabII software offers a wide range of functions. Essential functions (e.g. exposure time and sensitivity) can be controlled automatically or manually.Very convenient are the functions for so-called focus stacking (for high depth of field) and the creation of a mosaic or panorama. These two functions can be performed with a previously recorded image series or directly from the live view. Creating depth-sharp images using live focus stacking (EDF) is possible within minutes with the MikroCamLabII software. While you focus on the microscope, the software gradually builds the finished, completely sharp result image without further input. This way you get impressive, sharp image results in a very short time. The measurement function* included in the software helps you determine sizes or display a scale. You can measure distances, angles or areas with just a few clicks. Extensive functions support you, e.g. measuring circles with area and radius or complex polygons. Measurements can be performed on the recorded image as well as in the live image. The MikroCamLabII software also has extensive algorithms for automated image evaluation, e.g. for particle counting or area evaluation. The housing has a C-Mount connection thread and can therefore be used on microscopes from various manufacturers. We are happy to advise you which MikroCam is optimally suitable for your microscope. For high-resolution microphotos, this camera features a high-quality Sony 5MP sensor, so images and videos can be saved on an SD card at resolutions higher than Full HD. The camera functions are operated via mouse directly on the on-screen menu. Measurements can now also be performed via the on-screen menu, turning your microscope with the MikroCam Pro HDMI 5MP into a fully functional digital measuring microscope. Additionally, the camera can provide the microscope view wirelessly via a WiFi module. However, connection to a PC via USB is no longer supported with this model. For this, we recommend the MikroCam Pro HDMI 5914180 model. The professional MikroCamLabII software is still included, allowing images to be edited and analysed afterwards. The screen delivers brilliant images without artefacts, as the display has the same resolution as the camera's output image. With the set of MikroCam and HDMI display, almost any trinocular microscope with camera connection can be upgraded to a digital microscope. This allows observation independently of a PC. The display size is optimally chosen so that the microscope user can continue to use the microscope as usual and simultaneously view the image on the monitor. The display provides optimal image quality with a wide viewing angle of 178°! This allows several people to view the image without loss of quality. The microscope camera image is always displayed on the HDMI screen without delay and with a high refresh rate of 60 FPS. Display via HDMI microscope camera on an HDMI monitor is therefore usually of better quality than using a USB camera on a laptop or PC. This is especially advantageous when working under microscopic control. Many users also benefit from improved ergonomics when viewing the image on the HDMI display. Especially higher magnifications with their high numerical aperture can be uncomfortable for eye problems such as floaters (vitreous opacities). Digital viewing can provide relief here. The display can be powered with the included Y-cable using the same power supply as the camera. A suitable short, angled HDMI cable is also included, so cable clutter at the workplace is avoided. Mounting on a MikroCam PRO or MINI is done using two screws. Screws and tools are included. BRESSER Researcher LCD Microscope
A digital microscope easily brings the microcosmos up on the screen. For a long time, these instruments were common only in the beginner's range. Now, the successful and proven Researcher series makes the step into the digital microscopy world and offers new options for microscopy in schools, for hobby or work. The optics and mechanics is the same as already well estabished in the Researcher Bino and Researcher Trino microscopes. Incuding 4 DIN objectives, Abbe condenser, coaxial fine focus and crosstable, the Researcher LCD is suitable for use in the microscopy hobby as well as in teaching or other work related applications. The highest magnification when using the 60x objective (compares to 600x on non digital microscopes) is high enough to view small microorganisms as microalgae, flagellates and bacteria. Other magnifications (20x, 100x oil) can be added later. The Researcher LCD is also compatible with our plan-achromatic objectives designed for 160mm optical tube length. The integrated, modern Sony camerasensor IMX206 with 16MP gives a brilliant image with good contrast on the monitor.
