FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

For this application we recommend the BRESSER Erudit DLX 40-1000x microscope in combination with a USB camera, e.g. the BRESSER MikroCam 1.3 MP. This solution offers better image quality and flexibility than a simple LCD microscope.

If you want to identify bacteria, it is usually more useful to create a culture. Microscopes are generally only sufficient to determine whether the bacteria are, for example, spherical or rod-shaped.
The Barlow lens is already installed in the eyepiece tube on many devices. It can be pulled out at the upper ridge to use the zoom function.
Possible causes:

  • Sample too thick / unsuitable: Use thin samples or fixed smears.
  • No cover glass or incorrect thickness: Objectives are optimized for cover glasses.
  • Condenser incorrectly adjusted: Do not open the diaphragm too far – otherwise contrast will be low.
  • Magnification too high: Rule of thumb: maximum 1000 × objective aperture. Example: With a 40x objective with aperture 0.65, the limit is about 650x.

A PC or laptop is not required for operating the camera; you can simply connect the MikroCam MINI Full HD HDMI to an existing monitor, TV, projector, or smartboard. This makes it ideal for use in the classroom. Alternatively, a small monitor from BRESSER can also be mounted directly on the camera (see item no. 5914120).The HDMI connection is easy to make, and the camera is ready to use immediately. No software installation, PC setup, etc. is required. Due to the lossless data transmission, very good image quality is achieved, and the image is always displayed with a consistently high frame rate of 60 fps and without delay. This is particularly advantageous when a microscope workstation, for example, in quality control or production, needs to be digitized. To control the camera, the included USB mouse is connected. This allows you to navigate the three menus (camera settings, measurement*, and display).*To take measurements with the camera, a calibration specimen is required (e.g., item no.: 5916710 or 5916720).The camera is also very suitable for presentations, as it operates in automatic mode when the mouse is not connected. The menus and mouse pointer are then not visible. Please note that a direct PC connection is not possible. An HDMI to USB video capture device is required for that. The USB port is only for controlling the camera with the mouse.FEATURES OF THE MICROSCOPE CAMERAHDMI connection for direct connection to a monitor, TV, projector, or smartboardC-Mount thread for easy adaptability to various microscopes (manufacturer-independent)Compatible with USB sticks or SD card readers (max. storage size: 512 GB)No PC/laptop necessarySCOPE OF DELIVERY OF THE MICROSCOPE CAMERAMikroCam MINI Full HD HDMI with C-Mount connectionPower supply (12 V / 2A)USB mouseHDMI cable (approx. 1.5 m)The display in detailThe Full HD display is the ideal complement to the BRESSER MikroCam Pro HDMI and MINI HDMIThe display can be mounted directly on the camera with an adjustable holder. The screen delivers brilliant images without artifacts, as the display has the same resolution as the output image of the camera. With the set of MikroCam and HDMI display, almost any trinocular microscope with camera connection can be upgraded to a digital microscope. This allows for observation independent of a PC.The size of the display is optimally chosen so that the microscope user can microscope as usual while simultaneously viewing the image on the monitor. The display provides optimal image quality with a wide viewing angle of 178°! This allows multiple people to view the image without loss of quality. The image from the microscope camera is displayed on the HDMI screen always without delay and with a high refresh rate of 60 FPS. The representation via HDMI microscope camera on an HDMI monitor is therefore usually of better quality than using a USB camera on a laptop or PC. This is particularly advantageous when work is to be carried out under microscopic control. Many users also benefit from improved ergonomics when the image can be viewed on the HDMI display. Especially higher magnifications with their high numerical aperture can be uncomfortable for eye problems such as floaters. Digital viewing can provide relief here. The display can be powered with the included Y-cable using the same power supply as the camera. A suitable, short, angled HDMI cable is also included, preventing cable clutter at the workplace. The mounting on a MikroCam PRO or MINI is done using two screws. Screws and tools are included in the delivery.FEATURES OF THE DISPLAY16:9 Full HD monitor with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixelsActive area: 16.5 x 29.4 cmEasy mounting directly on a MikroCam PRO or MINILarge viewing angle (178°)No separate power supply neededSCOPE OF DELIVERY13.3" displayHDMI cableY-cable for power supply via camera power supplyMounting screws (2 pieces)Hex keyUser manual

BRESSER Advance ICD 10x-160x Zoom Stereo Microscope
The zoom stereo microscope BRESSER Advance ICD is suitable for a wide variety of objects. Because of the Greenough design with two tilted objectives, you can view the sample in 3D. The three-dimensional view is also very helpful when working under the microscope, e.g. when soldering, dissecting or preparing a sample. The precise zoom enables you to view your sample in a wide range of magnifications from 1x to 4x (zoom ratio 4.0). When zooming, only slight refocussing is necessary. To do this, the Advance ICD microscope is equipped with a very precise, coaxial coarse and fine focus. The fine focus is especially helpful when using high magnifications or for imaging. When doing focus stacking with our MikroCam cameras (optional) the fine focus is also a big help. The interpupillary distance of the eyepiece pair is adjustable. Both eyepiece holders are equipped with diopter adjustment, which allows users with bad eyesight to compensate up to 8 dpt. difference between left and right eye. The 10x wide field eyepieces have field number (FN) 22 and are equipped with soft rubber eyecups. The microscope head can be moved on the long rod of the stand, which allows you to observe big samples up to a size of 22 cm.The angle of the bright LED reflected light illumination can be adjusted as necessary. The extra bright and even LED transmitted light provides a flat background when viewing transparent samples. The switch allows you to select reflected light, transmitted light or a combination of both to match your requirements. Brightness is adjustable with the dimmer. The bright light does not heat up, which allows you to observe also living specimens over a longer period of time. The long lasting LED is powered by a 5V AC adapter (EU/UK). The power cable comes with a USB plug.Fully equipped, the Advance ICD covers an exceptionally wide range of magnifications and is therefore suitable for a variety of tasks. Besides the included 2x lens there is also a selection of other auxiliary objectives available. With these, you are able to adjust magnification, working distance and depth of focus according to your needs.Magnifications in basic setting (no optional accessories):10x eyepieces: 10x – 40x10x eyepieces plus 2x auxiliary lens: 20x – 80x20x eyepieces: 20x – 80x20x eyepieces plus 2x auxiliary lens: 80x – 160x(other magnifications are possible when using other auxiliary lenses and/or eyepieces)The third tube is designed to permanently attach a camera. The image of the left eyepiece is diverted to the camera port with a lever/switch. We supply a selection of camera adapters for DSLR, mirrorless cameras and c-mount microscope cameras. This enables you to attach virtually any camera body as long as you have a model with interchangeable lens.APPLICATION RANGEQuality control in industryMaterials scienceLaboratoryBotany, gardening, farmingHydrology, aquaculture, fishkeepingInsects, Entomology, pest controlPlant physiology, raw food materials, medicinal herbsSchools, teachingFEATURESTrinocular head with 2 eyepieces and camera port with switchCompatible with BRESSER MikroCam cameras and others1x-4x stereo-zoom head2x auxiliary lensDiopter adjustment on both eyepiece holdersAdjustable interpupillary distance (52 – 72 mm)Bright LED light (reflected / transmitted)2 different object plates for best contrastView samples of up to 22 cm heightAC adapter Euro/UK (5V / 1000 mA) with USBHeavy build with metal standIncludes 2 pairs of widefield eyepiecesSCOPE OF DELIVERYMicroscope2 pairs of eyepieces (WF 10x / WF 20x)2x auxiliar lens (1 pcs)1 pair of rubber eyecupsObject plate 94 mm (black / white)Glass object plate 94 mm (matte)AC adapter Euro/UK (5V / 1000 mA)Dust coverPrinted manual

BRESSER Zoom Optics DST-0745 with MikroCam SF UHD camera
High-quality combination set for precise analyses. This powerful set combines the professional digital microscope DST-0745 with the modern MikroCam SF UHD camera. The perfectly coordinated unit is ideal for precise observations, high-resolution live displays, and reliable visual documentation of your results. The microscope in detailThe BRESSER DST-0745 is a special microscope that operates with a C-Mount camera (not included). Thus, direct viewing on a screen is possible. Due to the vertically mounted optics, there is no image shift when focusing. This is especially advantageous for "focus stacking" shots. The zoom is continuously adjustable from 0.7x to 4.5x. A coarse and fine focus makes it easier to sharpen, especially at high magnifications.Due to the convenient and user-friendly operation, the digital microscope is particularly suitable for daily use in the workshop. Measurements, quality controls of surfaces, or checking components and raw materials become easy with the workshop microscope. Insects, plants, and rocks are also impressively displayed. The DST-0745 workshop microscope is not suitable for visual observation, as it is only a zoom lens. It is used in conjunction with a MikroCam C-Mount.It is designed for camera sensors of about 1/2".With the two flexible incident light lamps, the light can be optimally positioned. The transmitted light illumination helps in observing transparent objects. The brightness of both illuminations can be adjusted in five levels. The magnification of a USB camera differs from the objective magnification. Therefore, a total magnification of the digital system cannot be specified. It depends on the sensor size and the display on a monitor.Compatible MikroCam cameras:5914122 MikroCam SF Full HD5914321 MikroCam SP 3.1 MP5914520 MikroCam SP 5.0 MP5914522 MikroCam SF 5.0 MP5914822 MikroCam SF UHD5914912 MikroCamII 12MP USB 3.05914170 MikroCam MINI Full HD HDMI5914185 MikroCam PRO HDMI 5MP5914190 MikroCam Pro HDMI AutofocusFEATURES OF THE MICROSCOPEDesigned for C-Mount microscope camerasUp to 1/2" sensor size is suitableMax. object height: 190 mmContinuously adjustable zoom (0.7x - 4.5x)Two flexible incident light LED lampsLED transmitted light illuminationAdjustable brightnessSCOPE OF DELIVERY OF THE MICROSCOPEZoom objective head 0.7x - 4.5xStand with incident and transmitted light illuminationGlass object plate (one side frosted)Plastic object plate (one side white, one side black)Power supply, user manual, dust coverThe microscope camera in detailThe BRESSER MikroCam SF cameras are excellent for capturing photos and videos with a microscope. This allows observations of objects to be easily documented and shared with others. The high frame rate of the MikroCam SF series enables the creation of videos with a smooth image flow. The built-in Sony sensors provide good image quality, color reproduction, and dynamics. The included software supports the following languages: German, English, French, Spanish, Italian, Polish, Turkish. The MikroCamLabII software offers a wide range of functions. The essential functions (e.g., exposure time and sensitivity) can be controlled automatically or manually.Very convenient are the functions for so-called focus stacking (for high depth of field) and the creation of a mosaic or panorama. These two functions can be performed with a previously captured image series or directly from the live view. The creation of sharply focused images using live focus stacking (EDF) is possible with the MikroCamLabII software in just a few minutes. While you focus on the microscope, the software gradually builds the finished, completely sharp result image without further intervention. This way, you get impressive, sharp image results in no time. The measurement function* included in the software helps you determine sizes or display a scale. You can measure distances, angles, or areas with just a few clicks. Extensive functions support you, e.g., measuring circles with area and radius or complex polygons.Measurements can be performed in the captured image or in the live image. The MikroCamLabII software also has extensive algorithms for automated image evaluation, e.g., for particle counting or area evaluation. The housing has a C-Mount connection thread and can therefore be used on microscopes from various manufacturers. We are happy to advise you on which MikroCam is optimally suited for your microscope. For use on devices with a 23.2 mm receptacle, an optional reducing optic 0.5x (Art. No. 5914015 (fixed), Art. No. 5914005 (variable)) is available. For special applications, e.g., with a C-Mount objective, the camera can also be mounted on the integrated 1/4" tripod thread.*A suitable measuring tool is required for calibrating the measurement function, e.g.: Art.
