- Durability of solar eclipse glasses (SoFi glasses): All eclipse glasses available on the German market, or the foil material they are made from, must comply with the safety standard ISO 12312-2. Naturally, the solar eclipse glasses from LUNT SOLAR SYSTEMS, offered by the German distributor BRESSER, comply with this safety standard. SoFi glasses that comply with the ISO 12312-2 safety standard are indefinitely durable if stored properly and remain undamaged. It is important that the filter material does not come into contact with moisture or chemicals. It should not have been touched, as skin oils can cause changes. Therefore, newly purchased, unused, and properly stored eclipse glasses are safe, regardless of their production date. However, if the eclipse glasses have already been used and potentially exposed to skin oils or other environmental factors, they should be used for no more than one year and then replaced. This is why LUNT SOLAR SYSTEMS labels its SoFi glasses with a warning that they are only valid for 12 months, starting from the date of first use, not the manufacturing date. Eclipse glasses should always be checked before each use and should not be used if they show any damage.
