FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

For this application we recommend the BRESSER Erudit DLX 40-1000x microscope in combination with a USB camera, e.g. the BRESSER MikroCam 1.3 MP. This solution offers better image quality and flexibility than a simple LCD microscope.

If you want to identify bacteria, it is usually more useful to create a culture. Microscopes are generally only sufficient to determine whether the bacteria are, for example, spherical or rod-shaped.
The Barlow lens is already installed in the eyepiece tube on many devices. It can be pulled out at the upper ridge to use the zoom function.
Possible causes:

  • Sample too thick / unsuitable: Use thin samples or fixed smears.
  • No cover glass or incorrect thickness: Objectives are optimized for cover glasses.
  • Condenser incorrectly adjusted: Do not open the diaphragm too far – otherwise contrast will be low.
  • Magnification too high: Rule of thumb: maximum 1000 × objective aperture. Example: With a 40x objective with aperture 0.65, the limit is about 650x.

Nexcope NIB620 professional, inverted laboratory microscope with phase contrast
Inverted microscopes are primarily used for inspecting cultures. The NEXCOPE NIB620 is the ideal professional microscope for this purpose. The specimen is illuminated from above and inspected from underneath. This inverted design enables microscopy of plankton, microalgae and cell cultures. This allows cell cultures to be examined directly in the culture vessel without taking samples. This special microscope can be used in a wide range of applications, such as water management agencies, research institutes and universities, human and veterinary medicine, agriculture, marine biology, limnology and aquaculture. The inverted design prevents the lenses from coming into contact with the fluid. The specimen does not need to be covered, and the coating thickness is irrelevant. Culture vessels require a base thickness of 1.2 mm. The integrated display informs you at any time about the selected magnification and the status of the illumination as well as the sleep mode. The brightness can be programmed for each objective so that there is no need to readjust when changing magnification and the user is not blinded. OBJECTIVESThe NEXCOPE NIB620 microscope is equipped with a quintuple nosepiece. One planachromatic 4x objective, and one each of 10x, 20x and 40x planachromatic phase contrast objectives are included. The condenser has a numerical aperture (N.A.) of 0.3 and an extra-long working distance. EYEPIECESThe eyepieces have a 22 mm field of view. Thus you achieve a very large field of view. The high eyepiece head is ideal for spectacle wearers. A rubber edge protects against scratches on contact. A diopter compensation of -5 to +5 can be set individually for each eyepiece. The interpupillary distance can be adjusted between 48 mm and 75 mm. You can adjust the angle of the binocular part according to your posture and physique. ILLUMINATIONThe powerful 3 W LED has an adjustable brightness and provides the best possible illumination. The brightness can be adjusted individually for each objective. When an objective is changed, the NEXCOPE NIB620 automatically adjusts the previous brightness settings. The display shows the currently selected objective and the current brightness. The adjustment-free condenser enables quick readiness for use. The condenser can be removed for bright field observations in order to create more free space. MECHANICS In addition to the coarse focus, the fine focus helps to render a very sharp image of the object. A full turn of the fine focus moves the stage up/down by 0.2 mm. On the right side, fine focus can be done with one finger. The friction of the coarse focus can also be adjusted. The fine focus knobs are held in place magnetically and can be replaced as needed. The cross stage offers the possibility to insert different holders. For example, you can insert slides or petri dishes. The microscope can also be operated without the cross stage. This creates a large, flat surface. CAMERA CONNECTION The NEXCOPE NIB620 is specially designed for use with c-mount cameras. Nexcope NIB610 professional inverted laboratory microscope
Inverted microscopes are used for observing cell cultures. The NEXCOPE NIB610 is particularly suitable for this purpose and is very user-friendly and easy to handle. Like all devices of the NIB600 series, the microscope is also prepared for use in sterile workbenches (Clean Bench, Laminar Flow). The UV-resistant coating ensures that the workstation can be sterilised with UV light without any problems. Using an inverted microscope, the sample is illuminated from above and viewed from below through the bottom of the sample vessel. With such an inverted design, the device enables the microscopy of plankton, microalgae and cell cultures directly in the culture vessel without opening the vessel. For example, cell cultures can be observed in so-called 96-well (Terasaki) plates, Petri dishes or special slides with attached wells. The sample does not have to be covered, and the thickness of the layer is also insignificant.Accordingly, this special microscope is used in research institutes and universities, in veterinary medicine, agriculture, marine biology, limnology, aquaculture, etc.OBJECTIVESThe NEXCOPE NIB610 microscope is equipped with a quintuple nosepiece. A planachromatic 4x objective, as well as a 10x, 20x and 40x planachromatic phase contrast objective are already included in the scope of delivery. The objectives are designed for sample vessels with a base thickness of 1.2 mm. This means that standard slides or plates that rest on standard slides can also be used.EYEPIECESThe eyepieces have a large field of view of 22 mm. The high field of view makes them very comfortable even for spectacle wearers. A rubber cup protects against contact. A diopter compensation from -5 to +5 can be set individually for each eyepiece. The interpupillary distance can be adjusted between 48 mm and 75 mm.ILLUMINATIONThe powerful 3W LED can be adjusted in brightness and provides optimal illumination. The adjustment-free condenser allows for quick readiness for use. The phase contrast adjustment is also preset and does not need to be changed when changing magnifications.MECHANICSIn addition to coarse focusing, fine focusing helps to bring the object into focus very precisely. A full turn of the fine focusing knob moves the stage up or down by 0.2 mm. On the right side, the fine focus can be adjusted with a finger. The tension of the coarse focusing knob can be adjusted as desired. The fine focusing knobs are held magnetically and can be set to the left or right, as required. The cross stage offers the possibility of inserting various specimen holders (optional). Thus, slides, 96-well cell culture plates or Petri dishes can be inserted. The microscope can also be operated without a stage. This provides a very large, flat surface, e.g. for larger culture flasks or stacks. If the condenser is removed, a working distance of 187 mm is achieved.CAMERA CONNECTIONThe NEXCOPE NIB610 is specially designed for use with c-mount cameras. C-mount adapters (1x and 0.5x) are available.ACCESSORIES (optional)Hoffman Modulation Phase ContrastRelief 3D ContrastSample holder (Universal holder, Terasaki holder, Petri dish holder (54 mm and 90 mm)PROPERTIESProfessional inverted transmitted light microscopeType of objectives: Planachromatic (60 mm adjustment length)Precise mechanicsVery bright 3W LED illuminationSCOPE OF DELIVERYNIB610 Inverted microscope with quintuple nosepiece4x Objectives (10x, 20x, 40x with phase contrast), 4x as bright field1x Universal phase contrast slider1x Universal holder1x Centering telescope (CT)2x Spare fuses1x C-mount photo adapter1x Hexagonal screwdiver1x Dust cover
