For this application we recommend the BRESSER Erudit DLX 40-1000x microscope in combination with a USB camera, e.g. the BRESSER MikroCam 1.3 MP. This solution offers better image quality and flexibility than a simple LCD microscope.
If you want to identify bacteria, it is usually more useful to create a culture. Microscopes are generally only sufficient to determine whether the bacteria are, for example, spherical or rod-shaped.
The Barlow lens is already installed in the eyepiece tube on many devices. It can be pulled out at the upper ridge to use the zoom function.
Possible causes:
Sample too thick / unsuitable: Use thin samples or fixed smears.
No cover glass or incorrect thickness: Objectives are optimized for cover glasses.
Condenser incorrectly adjusted: Do not open the diaphragm too far – otherwise contrast will be low.
Magnification too high: Rule of thumb: maximum 1000 × objective aperture. Example: With a 40x objective with aperture 0.65, the limit is about 650x.

OBJECTIVES
The NEXCOPE NIB610 microscope is equipped with a quintuple nosepiece. A planachromatic 4x objective, as well as a 10x, 20x and 40x planachromatic phase contrast objective are already included in the scope of delivery. The objectives are designed for sample vessels with a base thickness of 1.2 mm. This means that standard slides or plates that rest on standard slides can also be used.
EYEPIECES
The eyepieces have a large field of view of 22 mm. The high field of view makes them very comfortable even for spectacle wearers. A rubber cup protects against contact. A diopter compensation from -5 to +5 can be set individually for each eyepiece.
The interpupillary distance can be adjusted between 48 mm and 75 mm.
MECHANICS
In addition to coarse focusing, fine focusing helps to bring the object into focus very precisely. A full turn of the fine focusing knob moves the stage up or down by 0.2 mm. On the right side, the fine focus can be adjusted with a finger. The tension of the coarse focusing knob can be adjusted as desired. The fine focusing knobs are held magnetically and can be set to the left or right, as required. The cross stage offers the possibility of inserting various specimen holders (optional). Thus, slides, 96-well cell culture plates or Petri dishes can be inserted. The microscope can also be operated without a stage. This provides a very large, flat surface, e.g. for larger culture flasks or stacks. If the condenser is removed, a working distance of 187 mm is achieved.

The BRESSER MikroCam Pro HDMI Autofocus delivers excellent image quality with ease of use. The microscopic image is transferred in Full HD resolution and without delay to a HDMI monitor or TV screen. An optional 11" HDMI screen is available under item code 5914110 and can be mounted on the camera directly. It gives brilliant images with high contrast.
Microscope images and video can now be stored on a SD card. The Sony Sensor gives excellent image quality and is very light sensitive. So this camera is recommended for low light contrast methods like darkfield or phase contrast.
The autofocus enables the user to focus without using the mechanical focus wheel. When changing the objective, the focus will automatically be adjusted from the camera. The focus range from the "zero" position (which is the standard backfocus for C-Mount) up to 5,4 mm intrafocal to reach CS-Mount distance, and 10,6 mm extrafocal, to cover a wide range.
In addition to the autofocus functionality, you can set the focus with the mouse or set a user defined focus range.
The camera can be controlled with the included USB mouse directly through the on screen display. The on screen functionality now includes a measuring function as well, so the MikroCam Pro HDMI Autofocus upgrades your existing trinokular microscope to a fully equipped digital autofocus microscope.
With the WiFi module, the camera can also supply the images in a wireless network. Due to this, a permanent connection to a PC via USB is not provided. The BRESSER MikroCam II 20 MP 1’’ microscope camera is the professional solution when it comes to microscope imaging.
This camera has a big 1’’ sensor (image area 13.06 x 8.8 mm); this is the biggest sensor of the MikroCam camera range. With this camera it is possible to document roughly the same field of view as it can be seen through the eyepiece (e.g. when using a 10x / 22mm). Other models will cover only 50% or less of the eyepiece field of view.
The Sony IMX183 CMOS-sensor is very sensitive and has extremely low image noise, which makes this camera especially suitable for contrast methods like dark field or phase contrast.
The MikroCam Lab II software comes with a wide range of professional functions, e.g. measurements in live view (calibration slide needed), mosaic, Focus-Stacking (for improved depth of field). All automatic functions (exposure time, gain, white balance etc) can be adjusted manually as well.
Due to the big sensor size the camera will not work with all microscope models. It might be possible that the optics will not illuminate the full sensor, so you experience vignetting. Usually this can be resolved by using the optional 1x optical adapter (item no. 5914001).
Please note that this camera model is not suitable for the stereo microscope BRESSER Science ETD-201. It will cover only a small field of view.

Illumination and contrast methods
The bright LED illumination for transmitted light / brightfield and phase contrast delivers high-contrast, high-resolution images in combination with the S-Apo objectives and the high numerical aperture. Adjusting the phase contrast is very easy with the integrated Bertrand lens: you no longer need a separate centring telescope and can check the alignment at the touch of a button.
Special applications often require working with fluorescence. With the integrated LED fluorescence illumination, you can choose from 3 wavelengths (GBU) for fluorescence excitation. The illumination is conveniently controlled and adjusted via a separate control panel. The display is clear and easy to read. In addition, the intensity and the illuminated field can be adjusted using several sliders. This protects your cell culture from unnecessary radiation and ensures you always work with optimal settings.
The microscope is prepared for use with 3D Emboss contrast.
The Köhler illumination unit features a condenser with a high numerical aperture of 0.55, putting it far ahead of other inverted microscopes. The working distance is generously dimensioned at 26 mm. For easy handling and sample changing, the illumination unit can be folded away. The phase contrast unit is integrated.
Mechanics
The microscope features a large stage with an adjustment range of 130x85 mm. Various inserts for Petri dishes, Terasaki plates etc. are available. The focusing drive is coaxial on both sides and moves the stage by 9 mm. One full turn of the coarse focus moves the sample by 2 mm; one full turn of the fine focus moves it by 0.2 mm.
Ergonomic design
The NIB900 features numerous functions that make ergonomic working possible. The most important controls are positioned close together and are easy to reach. The mechanical stage drive is positioned low and, thanks to the universal joint, can also be operated at a slight angle, enabling a comfortable hand position. The eyepiece distance for spectacle wearers can be adjusted between 48 and 75 mm, and +/- 8 dpt can be compensated for, as both eyepieces are equipped with correction.
Below the viewing port, the most important status indicators can be read on a display, where the brightness of the transmitted light is also adjusted.

Inverted microscopes are primarily used for inspecting cultures. The NEXCOPE NIB620 is the ideal professional microscope for this purpose.
The specimen is illuminated from above and inspected from underneath. This inverted design enables microscopy of plankton, microalgae and cell cultures. This allows cell cultures to be examined directly in the culture vessel without taking samples.
This special microscope can be used in a wide range of applications, such as water management agencies, research institutes and universities, human and veterinary medicine, agriculture, marine biology, limnology and aquaculture.
The inverted design prevents the lenses from coming into contact with the fluid. The specimen does not need to be covered, and the coating thickness is irrelevant. Culture vessels require a base thickness of 1.2 mm.
The integrated display informs you at any time about the selected magnification and the status of the illumination as well as the sleep mode. The brightness can be programmed for each objective so that there is no need to readjust when changing magnification and the user is not blinded.
