The first number indicates the magnification (here: 8x). The second number describes the objective lens diameter in millimeters (here: 42 mm).
ED glass (Extra Low Dispersion) reduces chromatic aberration (color fringing) and ensures brilliant, true-color images.

These compact ALPEN Apex XP 8x42 binoculars with a rangefinder and durable magnesium housing offer outstanding optics, precise distance measurements and a comfortable grip. Optics Thanks to the ED (Extra Low Dispersion) glass lenses, the premium binoculars produce true-colour images at an outstanding resolution. In addition, the BaK-4 prisms are fully multi-coated, resulting in a higher light transmission and therefore brighter images. Another unique feature is the dioptre adjustment, which has a range of -5 to +5. The eye relief is 14.3 mm. Rangefinder The binoculars come with a built-in rangefinder, which can measure the distance to animals, buildings and other objects up to 2286 metres (2500 yards) away. The maximum range is approximately 2286 m (2500 yards) for an apartment building, 1371 m (1500 yards) for a detached house, and 731 m (800 yards) for animals such as deer. The recorded distance is displayed directly in the field of view via an OLED projector (red) with adjustable brightness. You can choose whether to display the measurements in yards or metres. The reticle can also be dimmed in 6 levels. A long-life CR2 battery is included with the product - the battery status indicator shows you the remaining battery level. The BRESSER NightExplorer 7x50 astronomy binoculars are ideal for terrestrial observations in poor light conditions and discovering the night sky. They feature a 50-millimetre objective that lets in plenty of light. Thanks to the 7x magnification, objects that are 700 metres away appear to be just 100 metres in front of you. Compared with binoculars with a higher magnification, these binoculars allow you to see much more. At a distance of 1000 metres, the field of view is 126 metres wide. On clear nights, you can view large objects such as the Milky Way. During the day, you can explore fascinating landscapes until twilight. Coating In order to further increase the light transmission and counteract reflections, the premium BaK-4 optics (barium crown glass) have a full multi-layer coating. Focusing The 7x50 Porro binoculars also feature an individual eyepiece focus to ensure that you obtain a sharp image. This is set at a large depth of field. You only need to adjust the focus if the next object is far away from the previous one. To view objects in the immediate vicinity, you can adjust the close focus from 8 metres.
